"The Nittany Lion" a.k.a. "Hail to the Lion" Sheet Music (Penn State)
Did I go to Penn State? No. Do I know anyone who went to Penn State? No. So why did I transcribe this song? Because it's a BANGER.
I actually first heard this song when I was pretty young, probably 11 or 12. I had a seemingly random obsession with Penn State at the time and loved their fight song ("Fight On, State"), as well as this one. I haven't heard it in years but it recently got stuck in my head, and of course I had to transcribe it.
I really love this song, and it's a great example of how secondary dominants can add color and storytelling to the musical experience.
The sheet music includes chord symbols (some of these were a bit tricky but they should be mostly right), as well as the main melody, original two verses, and the tuba bass part, as I thought the interactions between the bassline and the melody were very interesting.
